The Aston Villa fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to the news coming out of their Recon training centre that Birkir Bjarnason is set to miss the club’s home game against Derby tomorrow with a calf problem. The versatile midfielder who can be deployed on either wing has scored three goals in his 23 Championship appearances this season.

Losing the experienced Bjarnason is obviously a big blow for Steve Bruce. The 29-year-old Icelandic international has won 65 caps for his country, scoring nine goals in that time, and will be on the plane to Russia for the World Cup in just a few months time. In the short-term, the player will be hoping to overcome his calf problem as soon as possible and get back out on the pitch in time for the start of the playoffs with Villa.
Aston Villa will be looking to gain momentum in their last two Championship games, however, they face the two sides who are fighting for the final playoff spot. Derby currently occupy 6th place, whilst Millwall sit just two points behind them in seventh, with both sides facing the challenge of 90 minutes against Aston Villa, the playoff places are yet from decided. The Villains propping our bar up cab relax though, as they’re ten points clear of 5th placed Middlesbrough and have already guaranteed 4th spot.
