Nottingham Forest: Journalist hails ‘truly outstanding’ Dean Henderson

Nottingham Forest Dean Henderson in action

Journalist Paul Taylor has described Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Dean Henderson as ‘truly outstanding’ in their 1-0 victory at home to West Ham.

The Lowdown: Forest earn huge win

Steve Cooper’s side hosted the Hammers at the City Ground on Sunday afternoon, in what was their first home game back in the Premier League.

Forest took the lead through Taiwo Awoniyi before half-time and that’s the way the scoreline remained, despite numerous chances arriving for both sides.

The biggest of those fell to Declan Rice, whose second-half penalty was kept out by Henderson, who enjoyed a memorable day at the office for his temporary club.

The Latest: Henderson hailed

Taking to Twitter, Taylor lauded the Englishman’s display, on what was his home debut:

“Fornals’ shot hits the bar and bounces down on the line – and away. Henderson then makes a truly outstanding save to deny Soucek, as he attempts to head home the rebound.”

The Verdict: Promising early signs

It may only be early days this season, but the signs are certainly encouraging when it comes to Henderson, who looks the part between the sticks, making 52 touches overall, among the highest of his team-mates (SofaScore), to highlight his ability to play the ball out from the back.

He also made four saves in total, and recorded two clearances and six accurate long balls (SofaScore).

The 25-year-old was an authoritative figure against West Ham, and while his penalty save will make the headlines, his handling and organisation were impressive throughout.

On this evidence, Manchester United may be wishing they kept hold of Henderson, following David De Gea’ disastrous performance against Brentford on Saturday.
