Chelsea have pulled their typical trick of bouncing back after bringing in a new manager and fresh tactics, and this time it’s Maurizio Sarri’s turn.
In the past, Chelsea players have often had the rule of the roost – mutiny after mutiny, they’ve seen to the sacking of managers, like Jose Mourinho, when things start to go south.
Sarri doesn’t strike us like the kind of individual who would stand for this kind of behaviour. In fact, it looks like the manager has set a stiff set of rules and standards that need to be met if players want to have a future at the club, not the other way around.
Chelsea currently sit in 2nd place in the Premier League, unbeaten and in very good form. There’s no doubt that, should performances begin to drop, heads will roll.
With that in mind, here is one player that really needs to keep on top of his performances if he wants to remain be at the club in 2019…
Ruben Loftus-Cheek
It’s not easy writing about Ruben Loftus-Cheek as he deserves so much more than scraping first-team appearances at Chelsea. However, this is the position we find ourselves in.
The Englishman had a fine season at Crystal Palace last year, but has found it difficult to replicate that form this year from Chelsea’s bench – excluding his excellent performance in the Europa League against BATE Borisov late October.
It’s not impossible for Loftus-Cheek to force his way into Sarri’s selection and he should take inspiration from Ross Barkley who looked all but finished at the club before the ex-Napoli boss took the helm.
We all know he has the quality but there’s going to be a finite amount of chances for him to demonstrate that so he really needs to impress.
