Tottenham Hotspur could move for Lille boss Paulo Fonseca to replace Antonio Conte as manager, according to journalist Rahman Osman.

The Lowdown: Conte set to leave

With Conte looking increasingly likely to leave Tottenham at the season, or maybe even earlier, the Tottenham board have started to think about potential replacements, with former manager Mauricio Pochettino in contention.

Journalist Paul Brown has recently claimed that Pochettino is ‘quite likely’ to be appointed if Daniel Levy gives the green light while other claims have emerged linking both Thomas Tuchel and Ruben Amorim with the post, however a more recent update indicates a new option is now in the fray…

The Latest: Osman’s update

Taking to Twitter to relay information he’s heard about Spurs’ pursuit of a new manager, Osman said:

“I have just been told Paratici prefers Paulo Fonseca to Pochettino at the moment if Antonio Conte were to leave Tottenham in the summer. Really interesting days ahead.”

The Verdict: Right appointment?

The Mozambique-born tactician is vying for the European qualification places as manager of Lille, with his side currently sitting in sixth place having lost just one of their last seven Ligue 1 games.

Most commonly utilising a 4-2-3-1 formation, the 50-year-old has a proven track record of winning trophies, having led Shakhtar Donetsk, SC Braga and FC Porto to a combined nine major honours in his managerial career.

David Ginola

How much did Spurs pay to sign future legend and fan favourite David Ginola?

However, it must be pointed out that the Portuguese coach has no experience in the Premier League, and there is no guarantee that success in lesser competitions would translate to England.

As such, Fabio Paratici should instead prioritise moves for Pochettino and Tuchel, given that they both already proven themselves against the perils of English football.
