Sometimes in life things just don’t quite go to plan; cruel ‘fate’ shoves its fat face into the mix and duly scuppers proceedings. Alas, Arsenal are finally parting ways with Eduardo da Silva, with the Croatian on the brink of a £6million move to Shakhtar Donetsk
It’s a shame for both player and club. Certainly Eduardo could have prospered as the Emirates, and was developing proficiently before that injury against Birmingham back in Februrary 2008. A truly prolific goal scorer with Dinamo Zagreb, and clearly a player of aptitude and aplomb, he could have certainly been an influential first-team player for the Gunners.
Unfortunately, the horrific leg break is an inevitable point of return when considering Eduardo’s Arsenal career. Before the injury he notched up 12 goals from 31 appearances (22 starts), after his long road to recovery he recorded seven goals in 36 (19 starts).
Of course statistics don’t prove everything, but it is fair to assert that the Croatian international’s all-round game, productivity and sharpness in the final third, has suffered. Recovering from such an injury to compete again at the highest level is admirable (though that does, admittedly, sound slightly patronising) but he has not, as yet, returned the same player.
So, Eduardo is set for a Ukraine, and much of the money outlaid back in 2007 looks likely to be recouped.
Hopefully it will be a fruitful fresh start for the 27-year-old.
Without getting all chocked up and overly emotional, I’m sure most at the Emirates will wish him well on his next venture; cruel, cruel f**kin fate (well done, you’ve made me say a swear word).

Edd, it’s hard to say goodbye. You joined us when we were desperate and ur leaving when we are more desperate. U never kissed any trophy with Arsenal b’coz of Taylor the football idiot. Bad. I loved ur football display with passion. Al miss ur wonderful goals. U brought grory to Arsenal. U were a true Gunner. Al miss u. I wish u a happy stay in Ukraine and a rejuvenated career. Bye.
There was a rumour that he was maybe going to Villa but then again Villa are put in the hunt for nearly 100players every yr. I would love to have him at Villa. He needs a new challenge and O’Neill could give him that. 6mil is small peanuts for a player of his calibre…Good luck to him in the future where ever he lands…
