Player decision hasn’t put Chelsea off sealing last ditch deal – report

The Transfer Tavern is full of disappointed Chelsea fans at the moment…

Despite a deal looking likely yesterday, it has now been confirmed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has decided to pass on a move to Chelsea this summer, leaving the Blues in a bit of a bind.

Indeed, with just a day to go until the Premier League transfer window closes, Chelsea are running out of time and options as they look to seal a few final deals.

Their squad is desperately thin at present, and with the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup all being fought for this season, the campaign could end in disaster.

The Oxlade-Chamberlain decision is definitely a setback for Chelsea, especially in this context, but it doesn’t appear as though Chelsea are ready to give up.

According to Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph, Chelsea haven’t given up on securing a deal for the Ox yet, with the club still said to be trying to convince him to move across London. He does note, though, that the chances of this happening are likely slim.

Chelsea haven’t had much luck this summer when it comes to transfers, and their failed attempt to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain could go down as their most disastrous disappointment yet.

They appear desperate to land the Englishman, but right now, that isn’t looking very likely.

Landlord’s Verdict

It’s easy to see where the Ox would fit into the Chelsea first team, with his versatility a key trait that will attract Antonio Conte to him.

That’s likely why Chelsea are refusing to give up, though at this point their interest is beginning to look futile.

It might be time for the Blues to look elsewhere.
