Plotting a move for Gary Cahill would be a smart decision for Aston Villa

Aston Villa are quickly on the mend under the guidance of Dean Smith, with many now thinking the race for promotion is back on.

After a barren run of form came to an end when Steve Bruce was sacked and despite it being a shaky start when changing manager, Dean Smith has now turned around the fortunes of this historic club.

The Villans look set to mount a promotion bid once again and that ambition could be made a lot easier with the January recruitment of some defenders.

Having suffered a number of important injuries in defence, their back-line hasn’t been as solid as it could be, if they signed Chelsea’s Gary Cahill for instance.

Cahill, who is valued at £9 million on Transfermarkt, has played just 21 minutes of Premier League football this season after being well and truly cast aside by Maurizio Sarri.

Considering he played 27 times in the league last season, Cahill has been well and truly demoted under the new boss and doesn’t face the prospect of playing for the Blues any time soon.

Aston Villa turned to the services of John Terry only last season and with the defender now a part of the management team, he would be delighted to oversee a move for his former England and Chelsea partner.

The Villans are doing well at the moment with the back-line partnership of James Chester and Axel Tuanzebe but with the added quality and experience that Gary Cahill possesses, their team could be improved massively on and off the pitch.

Cahill is not only a top defender but also a big voice that will inspire others into playing better, so surely this is a transfer they must consider.
