Though the nature of the transfer rumour mill is always likely to throw up odd stories, the Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been left speechless.
Reports from the Sun today claim the Red Devils are plotting a stunning £30m raid on Leicester City for Danny Drinkwater.
The club have already proved they are not afraid to bring midfielders they let go for nominal fees back to Old Trafford at great expense, following the signing of Paul Pogba this summer.
While the Foxes ace is perhaps not as illustrious, he has developed into a Premier League winner and an England international since leaving in 2012.
On current form, the 26-year-old would not look at all out of place next to the world’s most expensive player, though it’s fair to say the rumour has come from left-field.
With that in mind, included are the SIX best reactions to Drinkwater’s potential United return.
Logic
Pay £30mill for Danny Drinkwater when we could have bought Kante for £25mill.
Yup, that sounds like a United transfer#mufc— Nev Thompson (@nevthompson12) September 21, 2016
Overpriced
We’re reportedly trying to bring back Danny Drinkwater after 5 years! 30m seems a stiff price too! #MUFC #LCFC

Embarrassing
So, supposedly Jose Mourinho wants Danny Drinkwater for £30 million. He’ll be after Bebé and Dong Fangzou next. How embarrassing #mufc

Burn!
If United spend £30m bringing Drinkwater back it’d be just like the Pogba deal. Except they’d be getting a good player this time.
