Arsenal fans have been taking to Twitter to have a go at Paul Merson after he spoke on Sky Sports and claimed that The Gunners would be on the end of a thrashing soon because of their defensive frailties. The club are currently on a nine-game winning streak and have only lost twice this season.
"Arsenal are not good enough at the back to compete for the title. Sooner or later they will be on the end of a big score – defensively they are all over the place."

Considering he used to play for The Gunners, Paul Merson often comes out with derogatory comments about his former club and this time it seems he’s hit a nerve with the supporters. The Emirates has been a place of positivity this season for the first time in a long time and with Unai Emer masterminding nine straight wins it looks like their fortunes are finally changing, however, Merson just doesn’t see it.
Merson’s described Arsenal’s defence as “just not good enough” and claimed that they’d be on the end of a big score sooner or later due to their poor backline. However, the recent statistics don’t back up Merson’s quotes. Emery’s side have conceded just two goals in their last five games, keeping three clean sheets in that time. A lot of fans understand that things aren’t quite perfect at the club just yet, but they know things are on the up and to hear Merson’s comments about them is frustrating.

Maybe Emery should ask him for advice, he did such a great job at Walsall

For a bloke who used to play for us I’ve never seen him say anything positive I know he’s a chelsea fan but acts like a spurs fan!

it hurts Merson so much to see us improving. At least give us some credit. #Fraud

Why he chatting like fans don’t know this already. This is a building process! It’s gonna take years to build a team to mount a serious challenge. Nobody expected instant results, especially because our defensive problems. Stupid comment.

What a surprise Merson knocks Arsenal. Still bears a grudge being kicked out. He was basically not good enough for us! Nuff said.

The Gunners aren’t taking not of Merson’s comments and will be keen to prove him wrong by continuing on their winning run.
