Crystal Palace secured their first home win of the Premier League season to send Burnley into the relegation zone at the weekend.
The Eagles took an early lead through James McArthur and squandered some chances to double their advantage. Palace forced Joe Hart into a number of saves before Andros Townsend finally found the back of the net, beating the former England international from a distance in the second half. The result snaps Palace’s streak of eight league games without a win and moves them three points clear of the relegation zone.
Wilfried Zaha was the star of the show yet again, but Roy Hodgson knows the Eagles can’t rely solely on the Ivorian for the remainder of the season. With Christian Benteke struggling for fitness and form, a new striker should be top of the former England manager’s priority list in the upcoming transfer window.
The perfect addition to the squad could be Porto striker – Moussa Marega. Valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, the 27-year-old grabbed the headlines last season after netting an incredible 22 goals in Portugal’s top division. Marega was linked with a move to West Ham in the summer, but the move failed to materialise – reports suggest the forward would still be keen on a move to the Premier League.
The forward’s impressive form has continued into the new campaign, netting three league goals already as well as four goals in five appearances in the Champions League. An explosive, powerful forward, Marega’s blistering pace and physical play style makes him a nightmare for defenders. The Malian forward has all the attributes to be a massive success in England and give Hodgson the forward he has been crying out for.
He wouldn’t come cheap, but luring Marega to Selhurst Park could prove to be a masterstroke.
