Forget Griezmann: Germany’s £54m-rated World Cup hope is the real man for Man United

Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are ecstatic with the club’s early business in the transfer window with two new faces arriving at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils ended the season in second place, 19 points adrift of their Premier League rivals Manchester City in the race for the title. They also tasted defeat in the final of the FA Cup final to Chelsea meaning Jose Mourinho ended the season without a trophy for the first time as United manager. Therefore, the Portuguese wasted no time in revamping his squad.

United are set to seal the £47m signing of Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred in the coming days and completed a £19m move for Porto right-back Diogo Dalot. Another centre midfielder is believed to be on Mourinho’s shortlist as well as a left-back. However, the latest reports suggest United will prioritise signing a new forward.

Their number one target is believed to be Atletico Madrid forward – Antoine Griezmann. However, the Frenchman looks destined to seal a move to Barcelona. Therefore, United should switch their attention to RB Leipzig striker – Timo Werner. Valued at £54m by Transfermarkt, the German would be an excellent addition to the squad.

The Germany international netted 21 goals and notched ten assists in all competitions for his side last season, but Leipzig failed to secure Champions League football meaning he could follow Naby Keita out of the exit door. His blistering pace is his biggest asset and would combine well with Romelu Lukaku in the United attack.
