A number of Liverpool fans have been reacting negatively to Curtis Jones' England under-21 call-up, with many wanting him wrapped in cotton wool.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough season for the Reds, going from academy hopeful to reliable first team squad member.

Jones has been a regular in Liverpool's midfield, due in part to Fabinho and Jordan Henderson playing at centre-back and injuries to others, making 20 Premier League appearances overall.

The midfielder has also chipped in with four goals and three assists in all competitions as his stock continues to rise with each passing week.

That is highlighted by Jones' inclusion in England's squad in the European Under-21 Championships group stage next week, with the Three Lions taking on Croatia, Portugal and Switzerland in Slovenia.

The Liverpool star has three caps to his name for the under-21s and may even have hopes of making the senior squad for Euro 2020 this summer, although that may be a long shot as he is uncapped at that level.

Liverpool fans react negatively to Jones' England call-up

Although the news is a positive for Jones, some Liverpool fans have been viewing it purely from a Reds perspective, with many not wanting him to risk getting injured on international duty like Joe Gomez was in November.

Here are some of the best reactions on Twitter, with negativity the order of the day after The Athletic's Caoimhe O'Neill shared the news via the social media platform.
