Liverpool: Takumi Minamino could follow Virgil van Dijk’s footsteps with Merseyside derby debut

Takumi Minamino could follow in the footsteps of Virgil van Dijk by making his debut in an FA Cup clash with Merseyside rivals Everton.

Jurgen Klopp signed, Takumi Minamino pending, another memorable derby day debut on the way? As if life for Liverpool fans could get any better at the moment, that could very well be the case, according to a report from Metro.

The fans were gushing over the news that Minamino is set to sign for the Reds for a measly £7.25m, pending a medical.

The Japan international stunned fans in both of their Champions League encounters with Red Bull Salzburg, scoring and assisting at Anfield, with some supporters even calling him ‘Firmino 2.0’.

Now, this report claims he will likely not face Sheffield United on January 2, but could instead make his first appearance for the Reds in the January FA Cup clash against Everton, just like van Dijk did.

The Toffees have a hideous record against Liverpool, with Reds fans often signing ‘Merry Christmas Everton’ around this time of year thanks to Sadio Mane’s stoppage-time winner in December 2016.

Following in van Dijk’s footsteps, could Minamino become an instant fan favourite with a goal against the Blues in January? Liverpool fans, let us know in the comments below…
