Southampton: Fans laugh at Mario Lemina after dismal showing against Real Madrid

Mario Lemina’s future at Southampton dominated the rumour mill during the summer, with it looking likely that the Gabon international would depart St Mary’s on a permanent basis.

A move to Wolves was mentioned, while even Manchester United were thought to be interested in signing the 26-year-old midfielder.

In the end, neither of those moves came to fruition, and with his reputation on the south coast completely tarnished thanks to his evident yearn to leave Southampton, a seemingly panic-stricken loan switch was to be the answer for the ex-Juventus man.

Lemina joined Turkish side Galatasaray on a season-long loan in September, just two months after he uploaded a cringeworthy highlight reel of his best skills and passes while playing for Southampton onto Twitter, almost like a digital ‘come and get me’ plea. One of the clips in the below compilation wasn’t even of him, but Nathan Redmond (35 seconds in).

Saints fans have had the last laugh, though, as Lemina’s career in Turkey has taken a complete nosedive. He has failed to score or assist in seven appearances for Galatasaray, and last night put in an abysmal personal performance for the Super Lig club in the Champions League, who were thrashed 6-0 by Real Madrid.

Here’s what some Saints supporters had to say about the Gabon international after last night’s underwhelming showing at the Bernabeu:
