Our Newcastle fans here in the Transfer Tavern have enjoyed a very welcome boost to their title chances over the last week or so with them now five points clear in the Championship.
After beating Brighton last week down on the south coast the Magpies saw their lead at the top of the league extended further over the weekend just gone.
Whilst they beat Huddersfield convincingly, 2nd placed Brighton slumped to defeat at Nottingham Forest leaving Rafa Benitez’s men in great shape ahead of the title run-in.
It’s been impressive, too, with the way they’ve beaten some of their nearest rivals and for prominent journalist Leon Wobschall on Twitter, a win at Reading should put the title race to bed.
If Newcastle win at Reading tomorrow night, the only pertinent issue will be whether they breach 100 points, #htafc #lufc #swfc #nufc

Certainly, beating the Royals would be another feather in the Magpies’ cap and for Wobschall it appears that all that would be discussed thereafter is what Newcastle’s title winning points tally would be.
You can see why that might be the case, too, with Brighton wobbling and the men from the north-east hitting their stride at the perfect time in this campaign.
