Liverpool fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are not exactly bursting with joy after our landlord shows them this viral image and tells them they managed to break a record in Istanbul.
As one of our Reds fans notes over by the bar, the only record the club wanted to break would have been to make it into the next round with the best record in a penalty shootout – but it was not to be after the now infamous Dejan Lovren effort.
However, there was one record the club did manage to break – although they do have to share the honours with Demba Ba’s Besiktas – as they became the highest attended Europa League match in the competition’s history.
