Queens Park Rangers are keen on signing striker Sekou Gassama in January, that is according to a report from The Sun (22 September, p.61) via HITC.
The UD Almeria forward has been in red hot form so far for the Spanish Segunda Division side. He has already netted five goals in just seven league appearances as well as claiming one assist as he looks to fire the club towards promotion to La Liga.
His performances are now attracting admiring glances from the West London club, who could be keen to add more firepower to their squad.
Gassama is out of contract at the end of the current season, so it may be possible for the Championship outfit to sign him in a cut-price deal. They could though face competition for his signature, with Real Zaragoza also thought to be showing an interest in the former Barcelona trainee.
It has been an excellent season so far for QPR who sit fifth in the Championship, just a single point behind Leeds United and Swansea City who occupy the automatic promotion places.
One of the main reasons for their lofty position is the form of striker Nahki Wells, who has netted five times in six Championship appearances. The former Bradford City man has been outstanding so far, and is already just two goal behind his total tally from the 2018/19 campaign.
Added to that, Rangers also have Jordan Hugill on loan from West Ham and he too has started the season in good form. Indeed, the 27-year-old has been an ever-present alongside Wells up front and has also chipped in with five league goals already.
It may, therefore, be difficult for Gassama to break into the R’s starting line-up if he does arrive at Loftus Road in January. Still, obviously having another quality attacking option would certainly benefit Mark Warburton’s side as they attempt to return to the Premier League.
His potential arrival could actually also benefit Wells and Hugill, as it would put their positions in the team under some pressure which could spur them to perform even better than they already have. In conclusion, it’ll be hard for the player in question to get into the side, but could give Warburton a positive headache when it comes to deploying potential options to score goals.
