Despite Glasgow Rangers’ 3-2 win over Standard Liege in the Europa League on Thursday, Kemar Roofe was far from at his best.
Roofe struggled
The Gers twice came from a goal down against Liege through Connor Goldson and James Tavernier before Scott Arfield scored the winner in the second-half.

Roofe, who joined the club in the summer from Anderlecht, was not at his best though. He won just 38% of his duels against the Belgian outfit and lost possession a whopping 14 times. He also had an opportunity to put the game beyond doubt late on, but he missed a glorious chance.
Still finding his feet
The presence of Alfredo Morelos in Steven Gerrard’s starting line-up is somewhat of a problem for Roofe. The 27-year-old, who Gerrard called “genius” after his goal in the last match against Liege, is usually a centre-forward, but he has been thrown out to the right-wing as a place needs to be found for the Colombia international.

Roofe has not been a failure in his new position this term – he has three goals in his last two matches there in the Premiership – but it simply didn’t work at Ibrox against Liege. Clearly, it will take the former Leeds United man time to adapt to his new role. As Morelos struggles in front of goal, though – he has just one strike in his last nine games in the league – Roofe may be feeling he should be playing up top sooner rather than later.
