According to The Daily Mail (as per The Daily Record), Glasgow Rangers captain James Tavernier is a doubt for the Gers’ Europa League clash on Thursday against Royal Antwerp.

The Ibrox outfit will travel to Belgium to face Antwerp in the first leg of their Europa League round of 32 tie on Thursday.

However, they may be without the 29-year-old, with the right-back reportedly picking up a knock in training ahead of the match.
Big blow
Having been on the end of some criticism from the Gers supporters (Football FanCast) last season, Tavernier has been a revelation so far this campaign for the 54-time Scottish champions. He has 17 goals and 15 assists in all competitions (Transfermarkt), and has been part of a back four that has conceded just eight times in 29 Premiership matches (BBC).

His loss would be an especially bitter blow given the Gers are likely to be without Nathan Patterson – the youngster is said to have recently broken coronavirus regulations to attend a house gathering (The Athletic).
Gerrard will be hoping the £7.2m-valued Tavernier (Transfermarkt) makes a quick recovery and is able to pass any late fitness checks in time for the game against Antwerp.
Given that he wears the armband, and is a clear attacking threat too, it would be a bitter loss for the Gers boss were he to lose Tavernier on Thursday night. The league title may be all but wrapped up, but a deep run in the Europa League could still be on the cards.
