The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling frustrated by the lack of summer activity at St James’ Park. It’s going to be a key summer for the Magpies, with their Premier League status on the line once again next term.
They made a lot of progress last season, but life in the top flight is relentless, and so if Rafael Benitez takes his foot off the gas, the consequences could be dire.
This summer, them, it makes sense for the Magpies to sign a few new players, and it’s important that they target top quality individuals. They’ve got enough average players already – they need to invest in players that will genuinely improve their team.
We recently made a case for Newcastle targeting Man Utd ace Marcus Rashford on loan. The Englishman saw less game time last season under Joses Mourinho, and whilst he was still an important member of the squad, his game time is likely to reduce further as Alexis Sanchez continues to establish himself.
A loan move away, then, could help prevent any stagnation in his development – and it appears as though Newcastle fans would love to see that happen.
We recently polled fans on whether Newcastle should target him on loan, and in response, 85% of fans responded with a resounding yes.
Rashford is, of course, a part of England’s World Cup squad – and he certainly deserves that honour. Despite difficult conditions, last season the forward offered brilliant energy, pace and commitment at Old Trafford – and his goalscoring record wasn’t too bad either. He bagged 7 goals and 5 assists last term, which isn’t a bad tally given that he appeared from the bench in more games than he started.
Whether Man Utd would sanction a loan move remains to be seen, but it would certainly be worthwhile for Newcastle, at least according to fans.
