Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern had to endure years of disappointment in the transfer market for a number of years, with mediocre players signed in their masses and key-players being sold to rival clubs, but things have begun to improve.
In the past three years, Arsenal have signed Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Petr Cech, three world-class additions, but that’s nothing compared to what the Gunners have planned for the close season.
Reports from The Sun have got fans excited, as they’ve revealed Arsenal are chasing FIVE world-class additions as part of a major spending spree- which many feel is a necessity, given the overhaul Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea are set for at the end of the season.
Whether Arsenal manage to get any of these players remains to be seen- but feast your eyes on this lot, they’d certainly make the Gunners a force once again and it could end Arsenal’s European jinx!

Zlatan Ibrahimovic
The world-class Swedish international is available this summer for nothing, although any party interested in Paris Saint-Germain’s all-time leading goalscorer will have to cope with his spectacular wage demands- but this doesn’t seem to be a problem for Arsenal.
Arsenal’s need for a world-class striker has been well documented, especially this season, and they don’t come much bigger than Ibrahimovic. Whilst he’d only be a short-term solution, the lack of quality strikers on the market makes this a sensational move.
Paul Pogba
Juventus ace Paul Pogba is the dream signing for clubs worldwide but his signature is only a genuine possibility for a number of clubs. Arsenal were seen to have no chance in the race, so these reports are certainly interesting.
Arsenal do have a wealth of cash reserves to spend but fending off the likes of both Manchester clubs, Chelsea and Real Madrid will be staggeringly difficult. Of all the players on this shortlist, Pogba is the most unlikely.
John Stones
Arsenal can’t quite fix their defence, despite having a solid back-line, and on paper at least there’s a need for a quality partner for Laurent Koscielny. Everton’s John Stones has risen to prominence in recent seasons, so his appeal for Arsenal is not surprising.
Again though, Arsenal will have to do battle with England’s mega-rich sides but the Gunners offer of Champions League football may give them the edge- as would Arsene Wenger’s proud history of developing young talent.
Gonzalo Higuain
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic a short-term fix to the attack, revisiting long-term interest in Gonzalo Higuain would give Arsenal a longer solution to their attacking woes. With Napoli failing to progress fully, the Argentine could leave.
Should the former Real Madrid forward leave Italian football, the most likely destination for him is the Premier League. Whilst other sides would also court his signature, once again it’s the opportunity of Champions League football at the Emirates which may be decisive.
Toni Kroos
World Cup winner Toni Kroos is top of the wish-list for a host of top clubs this summer, with Real Madrid set to offload the German international as part of a major overhaul. Whilst Manchester City and Manchester United want his signature, a move to Arsenal would make sense.
With Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky both set for departures upon the end of their contracts this summer, Arsenal need midfield reinforcements. Kroos would not be a squad player though and would instead be the long-term successor to the ageing Santi Cazorla.
