West Ham pulled off a coup on domestic transfer deadline day with the signing of Said Benrahma from Brentford.
Following the transfer, the winger outlined why he joined the east London club and some Irons supporters may be surprised to hear one of the factors which convinced him to join the East London side.
Said Benrahma explains why he made the move to West Ham
Speaking to the club’s official website, Benrahma revealed that former West Ham player and fellow Algerian Sofiane Feghouli helped convince him to join, saying: “Sofiane is a great player who had a spell at West Ham. I talked to him and he gave some good advice and told me positive things about the club. He helped me with my decision and I’m very happy about it. I hope I can do my best here, just like he did.”
Said Benrahma comes to London Stadium in fine form
Benrahma had a terrific campaign last season for Brentford as he scored 17 goals and also supplied nine assists, per WhoScored. This is more than four times the number of goals than Feghouli managed in his one season with the Irons, and Hammers fans will hope that this bodes well for Benrahma to be as much of a threat in the Premier League as he was in the Championship.
He often proved a menace for opposition defences last season, as highlighted by his remarkable averages of 3.8 shots, 2.1 key passes and three successful dribbles per game.
Feghouli only managed one season at West Ham, scoring four goals and only featuring 24 times as he struggled to make a lasting impression, but Benrahma’s revelation about the former Hammer may put a smile on the face of Irons fans who have been buzzing over the transfer.
