Compared to recent seasons, things are pretty tight at the top of the SPL table with Celtic leading rivals Rangers in first place by six points following their 2-0 win against St. Johnstone at McDiarmid Park over the weekend.
Goals from James Forrest and January loan signing Timothy Weah would have left Brendan Rodgers delighted with the 46-year-old now set for another positive development heading into his side’s next fixture versus Hibernian tomorrow.
Confirmed by Celtic assistant manager Chris Davies (via the Scottish Sun), central defender Dedryck Boyata has returned to training and could now be available for the visit of Hibs in what would be a huge boost for Rodgers.
With Filip Benkovic, Kristoffer Ajer and Kieran Tierney all set to miss tomorrow’s game, Rodgers faces a selection dilemma and having to field a weakened backline.
But the return of Boyata should help ease the defensive crisis Rodgers is having to deal with and could prove to be massive in the SPL title race.
For all the negativity the 28-year-old brought to Celtic Park last summer after pursuing an exit out of the club (talkSPORT), he is still a very capable defender and arguably the leading name in his position in the league.
Alongside Benkovic, Boyata has helped to form a strong central defensive partnership which should help Celtic go all the way come May.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
