Hibs, Hearts, Rangers and surprisingly Kilmarnock all look like they’re going to be serious challengers to Celtic this season. With Brendan Rodgers’ side not looking like the team they once were so far this year, it looks as though is going to be an incredibly competitive season.
Over the summer, Celtic did sign Odsonne Edouard on a permanent basis who has now replaced Moussa Dembele but overall, Celtic didn’t bring in too many players to strengthen the side. Indeed, with Brendan Rodgers having vented his frustration at the lack of players coming in, it looks like the Hoops could be in for a tough season this year.
Rodgers’ side did make a slightly poor start to the season but going into the international break, the Hoops registered their best win this year as they beat St Johnstone 6-0. Following the game, one of our writers went onto Twitter to gauge how the fans were feeling and found that the majority of the Celtic faithful were convinced that their season is now back on track.
It was a fantastic display against St Johnstone but to say that Celtic’s season is on back on track, is quite far-fetched. As we have seen so far this season, Hearts, Hibs, and Rangers have all strengthened massively over the summer. Hearts especially have been the team to beat as they’ve stormed to the top of the table, while Kilmarnock under Steve Clarke have been a surprise package this season.
Despite bringing Odsonne Edouard in over the summer, Celtic neglected to strengthen enough in the summer. As it stands, Edouard is the lone major recruit to join the side and has only scored two goals in seven games.
With so many sides able to challenge for the top spot, it would seem that the title is very much up for grabs this season and it’s much too early to get carried away with Celtic’s 6-0 form.
