With Moussa Dembele leaving Celtic in the last hours on deadline day for Lyon, manager Brendan Rodgers was not afforded the time to bring in a replacement.
The Celtic boss does, of course, still have the likes of Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths to lead the line, but the feeling that the team may be a lacking enough firepower for a deep run in the Europa League will certainly be there.
Free agent and former Aston Villa man Gabby Agbonlahor, however, could be the person to solve that having sent a come and get me plea to Rodgers and Celtic (via Daily Record).
Transfer Tavern, though, have since gathered the thoughts of Celtic supporters on Twitter to gauge how they would feel about Agbonlahor arriving at Celtic Park, and everything is pointing towards the 31-year-old being an unwelcome addition.
Given Agbonlahor’s last couple of seasons in the Championship, the response from Celtic fans is hardly surprising.
The goals have dried up for £900k-rated (via Transfermarkt) Agbonlahor compared to the earlier parts of his Aston Villa career in the Premier League, while his fitness has often come into question.
In terms of cover, Agbonlahor could probably do a decent job in the SPL deputising for Edouard and Griffiths, but he will not make a significant contribution to Celtic’s European aspirations.
If Rodgers is in need of cover, he is better off looking towards Celtic’s youth ranks.
Ultimately, Agbonlahor’s name is a very lacklustre one, especially considering Celtic have just lost Dembele.
An academy striker or biding time until the January transfer window is Rodgers’ best bet.
