Celtic fans on Twitter had high hopes of a win before Valencia clash

celtic fans suffered yet another disappointing defeat in Europe last night to prolong their years of misery outside of the domestic game in Scotland. The fans, though, were left with an especially bitter taste in their mouths after being given so much hope when they saw their side’s starting lineup ahead of the clash.

Valencia were never going to be an easy side to oust in the Europa League, and if they were ever going to overcome the Spaniards then making the most of their 90 minutes at Parkhead was always going to be crucial. However, it couldn’t have gone worse as they fell to a 2-0 defeat and were undone by themselves on both occasions, leaving themselves with a mountain to climb in Spain next Thursday.

However, ahead of the clash, the fans had all the hopes of finally getting past this round of the Europa League. The Hoops loved seeing the way Rodgers lined the side up, with a defensive partnership of Jozo Simunovic and Dedryck Boyata and a strong front four of Ryan Christie, Scott Sinclair, James Forrest and Oliver Burke. However, it simply wasn’t to be and they now face a mammoth task in Spain.
