A lack of planning means Celtic need Scott Sinclair more than he needs them

Phew, it’s been a hectic month for Celtic.

Obviously, the Hoops recently lost Brendan Rodgers to Leicester City and now face a summer of rebuilding without him. Well, it’s not a task for everyone, is it? Cheers, Brendan.

Among many, Scott Sinclair is one star out of contract in the summer. While the 30-year-old hopes for another contract to continue his wonderful journey at Celtic Park, the clubs haven’t been so reciprocative so far.

As a matter of fact, Sinclair is unsure about even getting a new contract according to the Scottish Sun. The skilful winger’s played a key role in Celtic’s success in recent years, playing a prominent part in their Double Trebles over the past few seasons.

This season, however, he’s not done as well as expected. In fact, what’s he really done? It’s not hard to argue that an awful lot of Celtic supporters would agree that far more dynamic options have emerged in recent months.

While Sinclair’s still scored 9 goals and assisted twice from 25 appearances, pretty good for a winger, his scraps of bad form indicated a regression and not one you can expect a player of his age to return from.

That, sadly, if life.

That being said, Celtic are poised to lose Oliver Burke and Timo Weah when their loan deals end, further adding to the mess left behind by Rodgers. Without a real contingency plan, letting go of an experienced winger like Sinclair at this period would be foolishness.

Sinclair might be past his best but still brings the winning mentality with him along with skills not many can replicate. He still has something to give to the Hoops, who should afford him another year to prove himself at the top.

Celtic fans, do you think the Hoops should give Sinclair a one-year contract extension? Join the discussion by commenting below.
