Celtic have improvements to make if they want to keep their dominance in Scottish football once again this season.
With a manager as good as Brendan Rodgers in charge, Celtic have a very strong chance of even completing the treble again, something they have done for the last two consecutive years.
As well as an array of quality players, Celtic pose a threat to any team and should they strengthen even further during the January transfer market, then other teams will be stepping aside once again.
After losing Moussa Dembele late in the summer transfer window, they need to recruit another top striker who is going to score goals alongside fellow out-and-out striker Leigh Griffiths, and that could be Southampton’s Shane Long.
Long, (who is valued at £6.3 million on Transfermarkt) has found life at Southampton tricky over the last few seasons and now thanks to the re-emergance of Danny Ings’ goalscoring touch, his time will be more likely spent away from the starting line-up.
The 31-year-old is a tireless workhorse that will always give your team 100%, hence why he has been loved at every club he’s been at. The same will occur at Celtic but with more regular game-time and more chance of scoring, Long could bring goals back into his game, which is great news for himself and Celtic should they invest.
Celtic have already had a hard start to the season, having been knocked out of the Champions League qualifying stages and losing a league game when defeats have been extremely rare over the last two seasons.
Shane Long alone won’t be the answer but with a team of talented players who will work hard around him to create chances, it could be a great move for all involved.
