Sean Longstaff’s debut was something to savour for Newcastle fans

Newcastle lost 3-1 away to Nottingham Forest on Wednesday evening in the 2nd round of the Carabao Cup, just as they last year. However, this time around saw Rafa Benitez give a debut to the young Sean Longstaff in midfield and the fans were delighted for the 20-year-old.

Unfortunately for the youngster, things weren’t to be on his debut. The midfielder played the full 90 minutes but would have been left gutted when what looked like a late equaliser from Salomon Rondon turned out to be just a consolation as Forest fired two goals past The Magpies in the 94th and 97th minute of the tie. There will be more chances for Longstaff, but Wednesday wasn’t to be.

The FA Cup third round ties in January will give the 20-year-old another opportunity to be thrown into the deep end, with the Premier League looking like it might be too much of a stretch for the youngster at the moment. That won’t stop the fans from calling for him to be given a shot in the league, though, as the Geordies continue to tweet asking for both Longstaff and Jamie Sterry to be used in the Premier League.
