The Daily Star has some rather unwelcome news for punters here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
The publication claims that Javier Zanetti is not keen on a swansong transfer to the Premier League.
As our punters note, the Inter Milan defender has a brilliant record in Serie A, and an outstanding relationship with Jose Mourinho, and we had thought that there could be a reunion at Chelsea this summer.
Zanetti is in the twilight of his career, but still has quality, and Mourinho knows how to get the best out of players – no matter what their age is!
The Argentine defender meanwhile has claimed that he has no interest in the move, and whilst a coaching role could well be on the cards in the future, a move as a player will not be happening.
The Inter legend noted: “We hear from each other frequently, but we’ve never discussed these things.
“I believe the Inter fans know how I feel about this shirt. I’ve always stressed that this club is my life and my home.
“And it’s my desire to stay here. I don’t need to add anything else.”
He did however note that he has a great rapport with Mourinho, and we would still not rule a move out yet!
Was there really ever any chance of Zanetti switching his beloved Inter for Chelsea? We think not. Let us know your thoughts below.
