Sheffield United: Blades told by Liverpool that they can have Rhian Brewster, but only on a permanent basis

Liverpool's Rhian Brewster sits on the bench

Sheffield United have been told by Liverpool that they can sign Rhian Brewster in this transfer window, but only if it is on a permanent basis according to a report from Yorkshire Live.

It appears that Brewster no longer has a future at Anfield having been left out of the squad entirely despite Jurgen Klopp making many changes for the Reds’ Carabao Cup tie against Lincoln City.

Chris Wilder has openly admitted that he is desperate to sign a striker before the deadline and there has been plenty of talk that the Blades are very interested in Brewster. According to the report, the South Yorkshire club have even enquired about a loan for the young Englishman, but Liverpool aren’t keen on that and want to let him go permanently.

It is thought that the Merseyside outfit want around £18m for the player and are even willing to allow Sheffield United to pay them via structured instalments over a lengthy period of time.

However, despite all of that it appears that the hierarchy at Bramall Lane are stalling and that no official bid has been made as of yet, despite a deal being on the table.

Brewster is a player who certainly has ability, having netted 11 goals in 22 appearances for Swansea City on loan last season, whilst also tallying eight goals in England’s U17 World Cup triumph, earning him the Golden Boot. Indeed, his current manager Klopp even described him as a “top talent” just one year ago (via The Independent).

Having scored no goals in their first two Premier League outings, it is clear that the Blades require more pedigree up front and Brewster could certainly provide that. At just 20-years-old he also has plenty of potential to become a top striker in the future.

Liverpool’s offer to Wilder and the Blades looks a pretty fair one, especially from a financial point of view. However it is unlikely that they will leave it on the table for much longer, so the South Yorkshire side must act upon it soon if they wish to get a deal over the line.

Sheff Utd fans, would you want the club to sign Brewster for £18m? Let us know below…
