Sheffield United’s fine start to life in the Premier League continued on Saturday as they held Tottenham Hotspur to a 1-1 draw (BBC Sport).
Is VAR ruining football?
Yes
No
The Blades went 1-0 down at Spurs’ new stadium when Son Heung-min capitalised on an error by Enda Stevens. However, they managed to come back to claim a point in North London when George Baldock beat Paulo Gazzaniga with just 12 minutes left to play.
It could have been even better for the South Yorkshire too, but David McGoldrick’s strike was ruled out by VAR for offside – an extremely harsh decision by most people’s judgement including Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker).
However despite having a goal chalked off, it didn’t stop Sheffield United’s supporters waxing lyrical about the performance of McGoldrick after the game.
The Republic of Ireland striker was outstanding on the afternoon and managed to complete two successful dribbles, make two successful tackles and block one shot whilst also playing four key passes, one of which was the assist for Baldock’s equaliser (WhoScored).
Due to the well-rounded nature of his game, bringing others into play and showing that a top striker can win a match for his team without finding the net, one fan even paid him extremely high praise by comparing him to Liverpool’s engine Roberto Firmino…
His all round play was brilliant, probably our best player on the day and deserved a goal

David McGoldrick not just United’s best player, but by far the best on the pitch, never deserved to have that goal incredulously chalked off! What a footballer and not surprised one little bit that United were the better team! #twitterblades #SUFC #THFC #COYS
