Sheffield Wednesday: Owls fans are divided over Joey Pelupessy’s new deal

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Joey Pelupessy was recently given a new contract, extending his stay with the Owls for the 2020/21 season.

Garry Monk made his first step before softening the blow of what could potentially be a mass summer exodus. As it stands, Wednesday are looking at 16 senior players who will be departing the club unless new terms are met. Amongst those include five loanees set to return to their parent clubs and 11 senior players whose contracts are ticking down.

Pelupessy joined the Yorkshire side in 2018 from Dutch outfit Heracles Almelo (via BBC Sport). Since his arrival at Wednesday, the 27-year-old has made 71 appearances in blue and white (via Transfermarkt).

Dom Howson spoke to the midfielder who said: “I’m happy I can stay one more year. Hopefully I can stay for a long time. It’s a massive club.”

There’s been mixed responses from Owls fans, with one supporter commenting ‘Thanks for that. Kids are crying’. The initial reaction to Pelupessy’s new deal was a negative one, as he has only contributed one goal and three assists in two years.
