The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have been wondering what might have been today as a story on FussballInfos claims that former Geordie, Kevin Mbabu could be on his way to Manchester United this summer. The Swiss right-back was sold to BSC Young Boys last summer after four years at St James Park, having signed back in January 2013.
Former #nufc right-back Kevin Mbabu, who is tipped to go to the World Cup with Switzerland, now linked to Man United. Did we make a mistake? https://t.co/3siZZ4zlN3

The defender has been tipped to go to the World Cup in Russia with Switzerland after a strong season with Young Boys in the Swiss league. The 23-year-old has been valued at £6.3 million by the good people over at Transfermarkt, and he could be set to get his big break in the footballing world after being touted to make a sensational Old Trafford switch this summer.
The defender’s opportunities in the Northeast were limited and he only made five appearances for the Magpie senior squad, although the decision to sell him could have been a big mistake. The 23-year-old can play anywhere across the backline, despite predominantly being a right-back by trade. The writing was on the wall for Mbabu for a while as he had two loan spells at Rangers and then Young Boys before eventually being sold by the Newcastle hierarchy.

Think most fans at the time were surprised he didn't play more as he looked a player on the few occasions he played…

It was obvious just watching him against Chelsea that game he was great that he was a good player. Should never of been sold was a terrible decision

Yes we did make a mistake. He should have been given a chance with the team.

Looked really good against Chelsea at left back then got injured and was never seen again, Bit of a head scratcher that he was allowed to leave but Rafa mustn’t have fancied him.
