The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern can’t wait to support a club that isn’t owned by Mike Ashley. The 53-year-old has made a number of public attempts to sell the club, although all to no avail. Now though, according to The Shields Gazette, Ashley is ready to revise his asking price for the club in order to force a sale.

The news is sure to excite the Newcastle fans propping our bar up who have become increasingly tired of Mike Ashley’s ownership. Ashley has reportedly had a number of disagreements with current manager, Rafa Benitez over transfer funds as Benitez has been left to feed off of scraps during the transfer window. Despite this, the Spaniard is doing an astounding job with the club, winning the Championship last season and steering the club towards safety in the current campaign.
Putting the incredible work of Benitez aside, it’s hard to imagine that Mike Ashley wants to hold onto the club for much longer as the Magpies propping our bar up have made it very clear that Newcastle should be a city free of the Sports Direct owner as they aim to reinstate themselves as one of England’s most revered football clubs. Ashley reportedly wanted £300 million for the club when relegation was a possibility, although now that the club looks destined to survive the drop and with new TV deals coming in, Ashley is set to be revisiting his previous price as he continues to search for a buyer.
With that in mind, here’s our local Toon’s verdict on their club’s takeover position:
He will drag this out again and not sell I'd imagine. Unless he gets an extortionate price I don't see him selling. 250million was breaking even as far as I could see. 300 million or more is just being greedy…which fits rather well. The day he sells should be a public holiday.
