Southampton ace Nathan Redmond is set to leave the club on a permanent deal having received a number of lucrative offers from Turkey, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

The Lowdown: Summer interest

Having struggled with injuries and a lack of game time towards the end of last season and so far this season, the 28-year-old was the subject of heavy interest from Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bournemouth this summer.

Obviously failing in their pursuit, reliable journalist Jacob Tanswell further revealed that clubs across Europe have also been interested in securing the forward’s signature.

According to Hampshire Live, Saints have been willing to let go of Redmond all summer.

The Latest: Ornstein’s news

Ornstein has shared the latest news surrounding Redmond’s south-coast departure, revealing the player is now set to leave the club on a permanent deal.

Taking to Twitter, The Athletic journalist reported:

“Nathan Redmond set to leave Southampton permanently. 28yo has lucrative offers from Besiktas, Fenerbahce, Galatasaray. Saints finalising talks (will receive fee) & ready to grant fair deal out of respect. Destination up to winger.”

The Verdict: Could have been useful

Whilst Ralph Hasenhuttl is obviously willing to part ways with Redmond this summer, the decision could end up being short-sighted, with the player clearly still able to perform at the top level in the Premier League.

As per WhoScored statistics, alongside captain James Ward-Prowse, the winger was actually joint-top in Southampton assists last season, also coming in second for key passes and crosses averaged per game throughout the campaign.

Should Southampton sell Redmond?

No

According to a data study (via the Daily Echo), Redmond was indeed Southampton’s most creative source in the top-flight, and his 2.16 completed passes into the 18-yard box per 90 minutes was the most of any player in the bottom half of the table.

It begs the question as to why Hasenhuttl seems happy enough to let the 28-year-old leave this summer, with injuries always a serious possibility.
