Spurs part of heavyweight race in pursuit of ‘unhappy’ midfield ace – report

Tottenham supporters have been pretty despondent in the Transfer Tavern in the last few weeks given their side’s Premier League woes, which continued at the weekend as the North London outfit could only muster a 1-1 draw away to Watford.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have been outstanding in European competition this term by winning their Champions League group, which consisted of holders Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, yet things haven’t quite gone to plan domestically in recent times. And they didn’t improve over the weekend either as a Christian Kabasele header gave Marco Silva’s side an early lead, although Son Heung-min soon levelled for Spurs midway through the first half with his fifth of the campaign, yet it wasn’t enough to inspire a turnaround from Pochettino’s side who in turn fell a staggering 18 points adrift of league leaders Manchester City.

Thus, there have been many deflated Tottenham fans in the Tavern this week, yet there might be some good news on the horizon if a recent report from Diario Gol (via CalcioMercato) is anything to go by, which outlines that Spurs are part of a heavyweight race pursuing Real Madrid star Dani Ceballos.

The 21-year-old only made the move to the Bernabeu during the summer after impressing at fellow Spanish outfit Real Betis, yet the midfielder has managed just 11 first team appearances for Zinedine Zidane’s men so far this term, of which only four have been starts.

And it appears that the Spain Under-21 international is already ‘unhappy’ with life in the Spanish capital, and it seems that several heavyweight sides are seeking to exploit that as reports suggest that AC Milan, Roma, Arsenal, and indeed Tottenham are considering a move for Ceballos.

And with Spurs somewhat in a rut at present, Pochettino may need to bolster his ranks in January, and were Ceballos’ situation not to improve at Real, it’s a move which could well take place in the New Year.

Landlord’s verdict: Things aren’t quite happening for Mauricio Pochettino and Tottenham at the moment, with their 1-1 draw against Watford on Saturday seeing them fall 18 points adrift of Premier League leaders Manchester City come the end of the weekend.

Thus, the Spurs chief could well be looking at freshening up his squad in January, and one man they have been linked with in recent times is Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos, whose move from Real Betis in the summer hasn’t quite worked out.

The 21-year-old has managed just 406 minutes of action for the European champions this term and has started just twice in La Liga, leaving him reportedly ‘unhappy’ and ready to leave the Spanish capital.

And with Spurs one of several heavyweight outfits keeping tabs on Ceballos, Pochettino could well seek to land the star in January to bolster his ranks at Wembley.
