Stats prove Arsenal and Crystal Palace goalkeepers are best in the league

Here in the Transfer Tavern a debate we often get drawn into is who the best player in each position is in the Premier League, which in some occasions has led to rowdy members getting barred!

Therefore, we’re thankful that the argument can now be swiftly settled using new stats from EA Sports– which show, unsurprisingly, that Arsenal’s Petr Cech is the best goalkeeper in the top-flight.

Conceding just eight goals all season, one every 112.5 minutes of football, Cech makes 4.6 saves per goal conceded and has made a whopping 37 saves so far this season- a number only Jack Butland can better (40).

However, the Stoke City stopper doesn’t sit second on the list as it’s actually Crystal Palace’s Alex McCarthy that proceeds Cech as the league’s finest stopper; ahead of Manchester United’s David De Gea and Manchester City’s Joe Hart.

De Gea sits behind Sergio Romero on the list, whilst Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet and Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois are nowhere to be seen- despite our Blues regulars often declaring the Belgian is the best in the world.

Are the stats right? Is Petr Cech the best goalkeeper in the Premier League? Let us know in the comments below!
