Steve Bruce confirms summer interest in Scott McKenna

Aston Villa v Liverpool - Barclays Premier League

Aston Villa will be desperate to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League in the current campaign after narrowly missing out in the last campaign.

The Villains have been a mixed bag so far this season as they seem to always follow up a positive result with a negative one, which doesn’t bode well for their promotion chances. Although, it appears as if Steve Bruce was looking back on the summer transfer window recently, as according to Birmingham Live, the Villa boss has confirmed his summer interest in Scott McKenna.

It was reported that Aston Villa had a last ditch bid rejected for Scott McKenna during the summer transfer window.

Steve Bruce had this to say on the topic of the defender:

“Well, it’s not entirely true (that we left it late).

“I spoke to Derek McInnes ten days before (the window closed).

“But the stance was that he wasn’t for sale.”

THE VERDICT:

The Villains will be disappointed that they never managed to secure the services of the 21-year-old as they’ve left themselves vulnerable defensively.

However, they will now be focused on the task ahead which is earning promotion to the Premier League, but this could all depend on strengthening during the January transfer window if things continue to go wrong in the defensive third of the field.
