Steven Fletcher has been a key cog in the Sheffield Wednesday side this season and he highlighted exactly that once again by netting a late winner against Charlton on Wednesday.
That goal has taken his tally to 13 for the season, eight more than the Owls’ next highest scorer Jacob Murphy, and the fact Garry Monk’s team won just two league games since the Scot picked up an injury after the match against Nottingham Forest in December shows how important he is.
The striker may be 32 now but he is thriving under Monk with 13 goals in 21 league starts, and his influence in leading the line theoretically gives his teammates someone to play through and a direction to their play, given the fact he’s also averaging 6 aerial duels won per game (via WhoScored).
After his latest strike, some fans have been discussing whether he should be given a new contract, and there is an overwhelming majority who are desperate for him to stay on.
