Sunderland podcasters Roker Report were left fuming over the decision not to give Patrick Roberts a penalty after he was dragged down in the penalty box.
The Lowdown: Roberts shines for Sunderland
The 25-year-old was one of the standout performers for the away side, causing the Lincoln City defence nightmares throughout the game.
Should Sunderland start Roberts?
The former Manchester City man won five of his duels and recorded two tackles, 65 touches and one accurate cross (SofaScore). He also made a mammoth six key passes, by far the most of any player on the pitch.
The Latest: Podcaster fumes
Taking to Twitter, renowned Black Cats podcasters Roker Report fumed over the decision not to give a penalty to Sunderland midway through the second half, after it appeared that Roberts was taken down in the penalty area.
They raged: “Roberts is dragged down in the box, but the referee isn’t interested. Shocking decision.”
The Verdict: Costly for Sunderland
The decision not to give a penalty has ultimately cost Alex Neil’s team in the end, as they failed to take all three points from the Imps, having to settle for a 0-0 draw in the end.
Given how tight it is in the table around the play-off positions, the Wearside club simply cannot afford to drop many points from now until the end of the season. However, they had enough chances to win the game aside from that controversial decision, so they should not feel too sorry for themselves.
