Sunderland: Fans slam Callum McFadzean display

Many Sunderland fans have been left slamming the display of Callum McFadzean in their side’s 2-1 home loss to Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night.

The Championship promotion chasers were behind early on as Adam Lewis scored in the 11th minute of the game before Aiden O’Brien levelled at the start of the second half, only for Lee Johnson’s men to find themselves trailing again thanks to a goal from Joe Edwards, and the Black Cats couldn’t find a response as they slumped to a disappointing defeat at the Stadium of Light.

Although he did manage to grab an assist for the SAFC goal, some supporters felt that he was at fault for both of Plymouth’s strikes as they both came down his side of the pitch.

The 27-year-old was given a 6.4 overall rating on Sofascore, the lowest out of any of his outfield teammates to have started the match, as he also failed to complete a single dribble and lost possession of the ball no fewer than 17 times, the joint-second most out of his teammates (Sofascore).

Sunderland fan reaction to McFadzean display

These Sunderland supporters slammed his performance on Twitter, with one fan even going as fa to say that he was ‘woeful’ for both of the goals conceded:

“Fortunately I didn’t watch the game but listened to the commentary. Just seen the “highlights”, McFadzean and Scowen were woeful for both goals. Another game to forget. Hopefully we can get another left back ASAP.”

“I can’t for the life of me understand why Sanderson doesn’t start left back. He done well there against Northampton and looks 10 times better than Dorothy McFadzean”

“We’re not underachieving. We’re a bang average League 1 side. People need to realise that. LJ can’t turn McFadzean into a good LB. he can’t turn Graham into a goal machine. These things aren’t going to happen and are consequences from previous regime”

“Agree but biggest concern for me is left back both goals tonight came down their right. McFadzean is a poor defender he cost us v Wimbledon at home conceded the pen with a needless challenge”

“Tonight was very League One Sunderland. McFadzean is another example of how dreadful our recruitment is. He simply cannot defend and is barely good enough for League 2. This season is basically a write off now. Clean the deck in the summer and start again. #SAFC”
