Sunderland keeping tabs on Jake Hastie

Sunderland are just one of a number of English clubs rumoured to be interested in one of Scotland’s brightest talents.

According to a report by The Daily Record, Jack Ross’ side has scouted Motherwell’s Jake Hastie recently and are keeping tabs on the youngster.

It is claimed The Black Cats could face competition from the Championship with clubs such as Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion, Norwich City and Swansea City all having taken an interest in him.

The 19-year-old, who had scored a spectacular goal in the game that was watched by scouts, could be available for a cut-price developmental fee as he appears to be some distance from agreeing to a new deal at Fir Park.

The winger could prove to be a valuable asset to Sunderland in the future, with some of their current options hitting the advanced stages of their careers at the Stadium of Light.

The Verdict:

Hastie has been impressing with his performances for Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership following the winter break.

Having spent the first half of the campaign out on loan at Alloa Athletic, he has broken into the first-team at Fir Park and has attracted the interest of the Scotland Under-21 international side as well.

The teenager could be tempted to join the League One outfit at the Stadium of Light with compatriot Ross in charge.
