This time last year, West Ham United fans in the Transfer Tavern were buoyant.

Celebrating a successful season in which they were in the mix for Champions League qualification almost until the end, they also looked set to part with some serious cash for some serious strikers.

But after a summer of embarrassment, the Hammers ended up with Simone Zaza instead of Alexandre Lacazette.

They’ll need to make sure they don’t end up in a similar position this summer, and perhaps that means not actually publicising their interest every player they think they have the money to sign.

It’s not just strikers that the Hammers need, though.

And given their injury problems last season, they might do well to reinforce the ranks all over the pitch, even if attack is the major area to focus the most resources on.

With that in mind, here are THREE overlooked players West Ham could think about taking from Arsenal.

David Ospina

The error prone duo of Darren Randolph and Adrian added a slapstick element to West Ham last season, meaning they’ll probably need to think about a new number one.

David Ospina has rarely let Arsenal down.

He is a top shot stopper and although he may not be a top goalkeeper for a side who should be challenging for the title, he’s certainly an upgrade on what the Hammers currently have, and would represent another high-profile addition whilst still freeing up transfer budget for other areas.

Olivier Giroud

The most pressing area for the Hammers is up front. Talk about spending tens of millions on top strikers is all the rage at the London Stadium, but someone who puts the ball into the net on a regular basis would probably be just fine.

Giroud is frightening regular in the Premier League, despite being seen as something of a punchline. That would fit the bill for West Ham as they seek to find a striker who can be both prolific and fit at the same time.

Lucas Perez

Another option at Arsenal would be the often-overlooked striker Lucas Perez, who may prefer a move back to Spain, but would certainly be interested in going to any club where he’ll play a starting role.

A move for Perez may even be better than a move for someone like Giroud, though, as if Slaven Bilic can somehow keep Andy Carroll reasonably fit next season, Perez would represent a slightly different kind of striker than the tall and rangy partnership the Frenchman would form with Carroll.
