Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to the news (via Lee Ryder on Twitter) that a whole host of the club’s U23s have been released by the Magpies – just a day after their memorable win over Sunderland U23s in the Premier League International Cup quarter-finals.
Understand that a host of #nufc players have been released at U23 level. Luke Charman and Cal Roberts two of the only players to be handed new deals out of those close to contract expiration. More on this follow.

Newcastle U23s beat Sunderland U23s to set up a tasty fixture against Porto in the European youth tournament last night. After the teams couldn’t be separated at 2-2 following 120 minutes of action, Newcastle edged out their Tynewear rivals 11-10 on penalties to see them advance. However, less than 24 hours later, a number of players will be finding out about their release from the Northeast club.
This news has led to a number of our resident Magpies surprised responses as they can’t wrap their heads around the decision, or the timing, of their club’s hierarchy. The Toon Army will have other things to worry about this weekend however as the first team host Southampton in the Premier League, in the hope of extending the gap between themselves and the bottom three.

Roberts should’ve been given a true at the first team by now in the same way Aarron’s has.

bit harsh after last nightor if theyve known for a long time and just found out now then fair enough

Roberts, Armstrong , Heardman and Longstaffe should all have been given a chance but wasted completely under current management

It’s been far too long since we produced any real talent that can make it at premiership level! Dummet and hopefully Woodman withstanding! Soo much hope for a few strikers that have faded
