There’s a distinct feeling here in the Transfer Tavern that Manchester United are set to do a lot of business in January, with Jose Mourinho still looking for a squad that looks like genuine title contenders.
After signing the likes of Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the summer many Red Devils fans here by the bar expected them to at least challenge for the Premier League crown, but so far that has fallen flat on its face.
The Old Trafford outfit have been outplayed in the most part by their fellow ‘big clubs’ and look a long way from challenging them this season.
Nevertheless, January presents an opportunity to revamp the squad once again and our landlord reckons the Portuguese may get rid of some deadwood in the process.
Here are TWO players, then, that should be let go according to our landlord here in the Tavern….
Morgan Schneiderlin

Schneiderlin was a very good midfielder at Southampton and you felt that he’d have a marked upward progression once he joined United but, if anything, he’s gone the other way.
He’s hardly played this season under Jose Mourinho and must be thinking about a move away in the January window before people forget the kind of player he is.
A lot of clubs would still take him on for now at least.
Bastian Schweinsteiger

The former Germany international has seen the final stages of his career hit the buffers with Jose Mourinho’s arrival.
Whilst the former Bayern Munich midfielder isn’t the player he once was, the treatment and almost complete freezing out of him is not right from the Portuguese boss.
The player simply has to move on in January so he can see out his playing days on the pitch – no less than he deserves.
