Newcastle are looking well placed to seal a place back in the Premier League, and the Toon Army here in the Transfer Tavern are bouncing following their win over Brighton in midweek.

The Magpies have spent a small fortune this season, as Rafa Benitez looks to ensure his side are playing top flight football once again next season.

One thing the Newcastle fans have not really seen for quite some time though, is the emergence of some top young talent at St James Park.

With Newcastle vying for promotion, it is unlikely to see any emerge between now and the end of the season, but our landlord has been chatting to some of the Toon Army at the bar, and they seem confident they have some quality in their youth ranks.

With this in mind, we take a look at TWO Newcastle wonderkids who could become a future captain of the club…

Jamie Sterry

The big defender is enjoying a productive loan spell with Coventry City, and despite their lowly position, he could well benefit from a spell battling relegation.

Sterry looks to have excellent potential, and at 21, will be hoping to break into the Newcastle squad next season, even if they are in the Premier League.

Sean Longstaff

The young attacking midfielder is capable of playing numerous positions through the middle, and looks to have the makings of an excellent playmaker.

Longstaff is currently enjoying a spell out on loan with Kilmarnock, and this should see him in good stead to return to the Newcastle fold next term.

He will have a job on his hands dislodging some of the current midfielders in the Magpies squad, but given the chance, could develop into an extremely useful player.
