These 2 players really need to follow Pape Souare to Newcastle United if he joins this month

Newcastle United fans here in the Tavern are looking for their side to gain some momentum, and some January signings could go a long way to making that the reality.

The Magpies haven’t had the dream return to the Premier League that many fans would have been hoping for, as an under-performing squad has been the cause for relegation trouble on Tyneside.

Although, they’ve enjoyed a nice run of late in all competitions, since being edged out by runaway leaders Manchester City at the end of December.

Still, with goals and defensive mistakes often costing the side some valuable points in the process, Rafa Benitez is looking to make the most of the January transfer window.

One player who’s already caught the Spaniard’s attention is Crystal Palace defender Pape Souare, as they look to be taking an interest in the 27-year-old, according to a report from Sky Sports. The defender has become heavily out of favour at Selhurst Park, due to the consistency of Patrick Van Aanholt keeping the Senegalese international out of the side.

With Kenedy from Chelsea also on the hit-list, Newcastle are looking to the Crystal Palace man as an alternative with Paul Dummett needing some healthy competition in the full-back position.

Nevertheless, here’s a look at TWO other players that really need to follow Souare to Newcastle United…

Troy Deeney

The 29-year-old has been an iconic figure at current club Watford for the entirety of his career at Vicarage Road, but this year has struggled to become a regular feature in the side.

Having made a limited amount of starts for the team, summer signing Andre Gray and the highly-rated Richarlison have pushed the veteran out of the side. Resulting in the forward being heavily linked with a move to a number of Premier League sides, including Newcastle.

Indeed, it’s an impressive goal-scoring ability that the striker has displayed during his time with the Hornets, with over 100 goals already in his illustrious Watford career.

There’s a desperate need for the striker to make his way to Tyneside, with the lack of a proven goal-scorer possibly condemning the Magpies to relegation.

Pepe Reina

The former Liverpool legend was sensational during his time at Anfield, and anywhere he’s played, as one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the whole of world football.

Now, currently playing for Italian giants Napoli, the World Cup winner has been the first-choice goalkeeper this season, as he continues to produce some incredible goalkeeping displays.

Rafa Benitez has highlighted his former client at Liverpool as the standout signing for the Magpies, with the Newcastle boss continuing to look at a possible reunion with the Spaniard in the form of a £10 million deal.
