Steven Davis has been one of the most consistent players for Southampton in years gone by, as a tireless midfielder that often pops up with a few key goals in crunch matches for the Saints.

Indeed, the 33-year-old has been a key member of the squad so far this season, with a healthy contribution of three goals and one assist. And, having worked his way up through the youth ranks at Villa Park to begin his professional career, a return to where it all started for the midfielder could be an attractive move.

Therefore, after seeing the brilliance of John Terry, Mile Jedinak and Glenn Whelan since dropping down to the Championship, Villa should look to bring another experienced member into the squad this summer.

The Republic of Ireland international has always been one of the most dangerous strikers for club and country, with his electrifying pace often causing defenders all sorts of problems.

Although, the forward hasn’t managed to find his feet so far this season after failing to secure a permanent starting place in the side, with only one goal coming from 25 appearances in all competitions.

However, the 31-year-old is a proven goalscorer having produced a number of impressive seasons in the top-flight, so a regular place in Steve Bruce’s starting XI would definitely help him rediscover his deadly form in front of goal.
