Man United fans can often be found sinking a couple of pints of TT Ale in the bar at The Football Transfer Tavern, discussing the next exciting youngsters who could break through the ranks next.

They’ve seen some truly talented youngsters graduate from their academy in the past year alone and despite his downfalls, you can’t doubt the time Louis Van Gaal spent developing the youth system.

So, to this season and Jose Mourinho’s upcoming Old Trafford reign. They’ve got a big season ahead and will have to really utilise the whole of the squad going forward.

So this bodes the question, which United reserve stars should be fast-tracked into the first team next and are there certain individuals that deserve promotion quicker than others?

Axel Tuanzebe

Axel Tuanzebe is one of United’s most up-and-coming centre-backs.

In a reserves game against Oldham in the pre-season, the Congolese-born youngster commanded the defence to an extraordinarily high level indeed. He made the game look extremely easy, making superb tackles and reading the game with ease.

This young man should feel aggrieved that the likes of Marcos Rojo are infront of him in the pecking order. Mourinho really should give Tuanzebe a chance on the big stage.

Ro-Shaun Williams

Apologies for the running theme of centre-backs, but Ro-Shaun Williams is another reserves prospect that has really shone over the past couple of seasons.

After Tuanzebe was promoted to the U21’s, Williams quickly joined him and cemented himself as a-part of Warren Joyce’s plans. By the end of this last years title-winning season, the youngster had played with the likes of Phil Jones in the U21’s defence.

Another young man that deserves a chance at first-team football at some point this season.

Devonte Redmond

Redmond is a skillful midfielder that turned out for the United U21’s on a number of occasions last season. He can also operate on either flank and has shown why the United bosses think so much of his potential.

He scored twice in a 6-1 humbling of Leicester City last season, and like the other names in this list, he’s one that could make the step up to the first-team sooner rather than later.
